Paws Up:
1) Thanks to Bide-a-Wee
for the recent article in their magazine entitled
"The
Dog Who Changed My Life".
This wonderful article honored Gators life. It also
told the story of the legislative process that ended
Greyhound racing in Vermont. For a copy of this article,
please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to STGD!
2) Our deep
thanks and a round of applause to those dedicated
individuals who have continued to make their feelings
known by demonstrating outside some New Hampshire
Greyhound tracks. We wish that more local individuals
and families with Greyhounds were standing with them.

3) Through an outstanding
and successful letter-writing campaign launched by STGD! in our
Spring 1996 newsletter, we can all feel pleased that U-HAUL
CORPORATION, as per CEO Joe Shoen
and PR Director Don Gavin, met all our requests. They have
agreed to discontinue further use of the State of Kansas van design
which portrays racing greyhounds wearing silks and muzzles. They
have also discontinued the printed line promoting the National
Greyhound Hall of Fame in Abilene, KS. Instead they have,
with their artist, created a brand new "Celebrate America"
design for the state of Kansas. A poster of this new design
has been sent to us and hangs proudly in our small office (closet!). We
respect their cooperation and firmly believe they have done this
with the finest intent and show of sincere good faith. Click
here for an update.
4) AMERICAN AIRLINES
has agreed to discontinue further use of all in-flight films that
promote the greyhound racing industry. These films were a
part of their in-flight travel segments and suggested places to
visit while on vacation. AA, after numerous communications,
located the specific flights showing these films, and ended their
use. From their correspondence it appears as though AA has
a very strong track record of assisting animal welfare organizations
whenever possible. We congratulate them for this, and extend
our gratitude for their cooperation in this important matter.

Paws Down:
1) According to some of our friends there are some "greyhound
people" who are apparently supporting the Greyhound racing
industry. You know who you are and so do we. We can only say it
is truly shameful.
Many of us wonder how one could have any kind of partnership
with an industry that conducts themselves as this industry does?
These gentle dogs have died in kennels where the air-conditioning
failed, died in preventable fires, been tossed into dumpsters,
have been abandoned at tracks...need we go on?
